  • 2/3 cup shelled green peas
  • 3 measuring cup (use the measuring cup that came with rice cooker) rice
  • 1 tsp salt
  • About 1 tbsp sake
  • 20 oz water
  • 2~4″ kombu

Soak kombu in 20oz water 30 minutes to 1 hour. Turn on the heat and remove the kombu just before boiling. Add 1 tsp salt in the water and boil green peas 5 minutes.
Leave the green peas in the boiled water until cool down. If you are in a hurry, cool down the pot by soaking in icy cold water. I poured out the water and peas in a small bowl to cool down. Don't discard the boiling water, as we use it to cook rice in the next step.
Wash rice as usual, and drain water completely. Set the rice in a rice cooker, and pour only boiling water of green peas. Keep the peas aside. They will be added after the rice is cooked. The water level should come little less than 3 of white rice measurement ticks. Pour sake, so that the water level comes to 3.
When the rice is cooked, mix in the peas.
