White turnips can be turned into chrysanthemum flower shaped sweet and sour quick pickles. They are often prepared as a part of new year’s celebration food, but also perfect accompaniment of grilled fish.
White turnips come in many different sizes. Some are small, and the others are large even in one bunch. For the flower pickles, approximately 1″ to 1-1/2″ diameter turnips work well. Larger turnips take longer time to pickle, and smaller turnips are difficult to handle.
You need a very sharp knife and a pair of disposable chopsticks to do this. Make sure to sharpen your knife before cutting turnips. Serrated knife will not do the job.
