Katsuobushi Furikake Recipe

What do you do with the katsuobushi after extracting dashi? Do you just toss it to a kitchen garbage? You could use it for your compost.

Whenever I make dashi, I keep the leftover katsuobushi after dashi is extracted. Here is an easy and tasty furikake recipe you can make. Furikake is a condiment to sprinkle over hot cooked rice. As a matter of fact, this one tastes much better than store bought dry versions. My son loves it too.

Similar furikake can be made from thinly sliced kombu after making dashi. You can also make furikake from carrot greens, as well.
