Tomato Salad with Japanese Dressing


A tomato can make a Japanese side dish with soy sauce based dressing. Homemade noodle soup base comes handy, but store bought one also works fine.

Ingredients (for one serving)

  • 1 tomato
  • 1 tbsp noodle soup base
  • 1 tsp rice vinegar (can be substituted with other vinegar)
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 tbsp finely chopped onion
  • small amount of grated ginger
  • Thinly sliced shiso leaves for garnish (optional)


Mix all the ingredients except tomato and shiso. Slice a tomato thin with a very sharp knife, and place them in a plate. Pour the dressing over and top with sliced shiso.
